The Journey So Far

Tell us about your early years — where did you grow up?

I grew up in a town called Ringwood in the New Forest. I have always been really sporty since I was young and participated in a wide variety of sports at school.

How did you get into cycling? Who inspired or helped you along the way?

I first started cycling aged 12 alongside my younger brother at the outdoor velodrome in Bournemouth, where we joined the local youth club Poole Wheelers. I’d also go out riding regularly with my dad at weekends. I think it was the combination of having a supportive family, making friends my own age and enjoying the community around cycling that kept me coming back. From there, it just grew into something I really loved.

Tell us about the teams and clubs you were part of as a youth.

I joined Poole Wheelers, the biggest cycling club in my area, as a youth rider. It was a great environment to learn and develop, with so many different ways to get involved, from roller sessions and track, to chain gangs and cafe rides.

Tell us more about your cycling career to date — teams, clubs, and any highlights. When did you join Handsling Alba, and how did that come about?

Recent results I’m most proud of would be my 2nd place at East Cleveland Classic last year as well as finishing 2nd overall in the 2025 National Road Series!

When did you join Handsling Alba and how did that come about?

This is my first year with Alba. I first contacted Bob midway through last season and after our initial conversation I was really impressed by the team’s professional approach and focus on long-term development. After a stressful year with my previous team collapsing, the no-pressure environment and clear direction were exactly what I was looking for. The team’s core values and ambitions aligned closely with my own, so when I was offered a place it felt like a really easy decision to join.

Top 3 Tips for Aspiring Cyclists

Here's Holly's advice to pass on to anyone finding their own way into cycling:

  1. Try not to compare yourself to others — everyone’s journey is different.
  2. Train with purpose — quality sessions will take you much further than just piling on volume and burning out.
  3. Most importantly, enjoy the process and celebrate the small wins along the way.
